In this class you’ll learn the Japanese art of Arashi (pole wrapping.) It’s one of many techniques under the umbrella of Shibori, which mean shape resist dyeing. Ann Greenleaf, your instructor, is an expert in the art of Shibori and uses this for crafting beautiful textiles that are then used in garments, accessories , home decor and more. Her vast experience in teaching includes teaching at Hallmark.
Shibori is a Japanese term for several methods of dyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, or compressing it.

We’ll explore many ways to tie the fabric on cylinder and compress the fabric to create folds or patterns.

Indigo dye baths will be mixed ahead of class but instructions will be given so students can learn how to mix Procion MX dyes if they want to pursue Shibori on their own.
Students will learn how to set and rinse their finished pieces.

All fabric and dye supplies included.
Class Fee $65.
