This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.

Garments& Garments – Do you have basic sewing skills but you need some help to sew with patterns? – this is the class for you. Beginner & beyond sewing skills are welcome but sewing machine operations and simple sewing skills are required. You will choose your own pattern & fabrics with guidance from the instructor. You will get help with body measuring & sizing. Proper fabric selection, notions and more. Beginner to Intermediate projects work best. Garments, bags or other items can be considered. We will assist you with pattern layout, cutting, marking and construction. Use our stash or bring your own. (our stash is limited - yardages in our stash are generally under 2 yards and vary from fashion to cotton to home décor. Sign up for6 weeks & re-sign up as many times as you need. Sewing Machine Basics – Domestic = Did you receive a sewing machine as a gift or are just getting started? Learn to use your new machine or refresh your skills. If you don't have a machine but, still want to learn - you can use one of ours for this class. You will learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and more. Basic sewing operations including stitch width & length & pattern selection will be covered. You will make samples as you learn for future reference.
Bring your machine and all its accessories & tools. This does not cover embroidery machines.

Introducing - Dr. Patricia Eisele as our Smart Money coordinator. Dr. Eisele holds a bachelors degree in Journalism and Public Relations, an MBA with a Marketing emphasis, and a PhD in Family Business Entrepreneurship. She has started two businesses and has both U.S. and International experience. Trish is a former Small Business Development Center consultant and previously managed international degree programs for Ottawa University at 13 sites in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
She will be your guide instructor for the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs.
During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.
Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course if for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete. At the end of this course you can earn a certification thru testing. This course is also part of our Sewing Salon program - for employment, entrepreneurship and enrichment.
This course will be lead by Cali Roberta on Saturdays & Robert Lackie - on week days -Classroom Instructors for Domestic machine.
All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.
This course will get you back to sewing and then you can continue to more courses for additional certificates or just for self enrichment.

Garments& Garments – Do you have basic sewing skills but you need some help to sew with patterns? – this is the class for you. Beginner & beyond sewing skills are welcome but sewing machine operations and simple sewing skills are required. You will choose your own pattern & fabrics with guidance from the instructor. You will get help with body measuring & sizing. Proper fabric selection, notions and more. Beginner to Intermediate projects work best. Garments, bags or other items can be considered. We will assist you with pattern layout, cutting, marking and construction. Use our stash or bring your own. (our stash is limited - yardages in our stash are generally under 2 yards and vary from fashion to cotton to home décor. Sign up for6 weeks & re-sign up as many times as you need. Thursday evenings 6-8 pm 6weeks Fee $ 120
Open Sew–Open Sew is a time for you to come together to enjoy sewing on your own projects in The Sewing Labs. Bring your sewing machine or use ours (first come, first serve). Use our tools & stash to practice your skills or start a project or bring your own project to work. NO INSTRUCTION IS OFFERED - YOU MUST HAVE SEWING EXPERIENCE! but, volunteers are available for simple help. Domestic machines are available - NO Industrial machines offered.
