Plaid-ish is a free pattern from Kitchen Table Quilting that has been made by many quilters.
This is an Advanced Beginner class - Basic Sewing skills required
Successful class participants should have mastered 1/4 seams. We will teach correct placement of fabric for effect and proper pressing directions. Correct placement of light, medium, and dark fabric choices create a large (almost a twin) quilt that looks like a plaid. There are only three different blocks that are very similar to make. Students may need to assemble some blocks at home due the size of the project or choose to make a smaller quilt. Instructions include a coloring sheet to plan your quilt.

Mending celebrates our love for our clothes. The phenomenon known as visible mending is all about emphasizing the fix and creating garments that tell a visual history. Visible mending can turn a rip or a hole into something uniquely beautiful, creative and fun. Learn how to use a variety of patching and stitching techniques to breathe new life into a well-traveled pair of jeans in need of repair or other garments needing mending. Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course if for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete.
This course will be lead by Cali Roberta on Saturdays & Robert Lackie - on week days -Classroom Instructors for Domestic machine.

Learn to construct home décor pillows -
This class will teach you to cutting techniques and sewing tips to make the perfect pillow for your home. You will learn from the professional, tips of cutting your fabrics to create matching pillows. You will learn how to do a hidden zipper installation. watch a demonstration on how to create a variety of edges; self-corded, flange, ruffled and knife edge. You will make cording from pillow fabrics so that you will always have a perfect match. You will construct one (1) pillow during class and make several trim samples.

Hand Embroidery – Learn the basic stitches in hand embroidery while making a fun Heart motif.
Brenda Dailey will guide you through learning basic hand embroidery stitches while you stitch a simple design.

Open Stitch Fridays - This is a time for you to come together to stitch. Bring your own projects of sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, other fiber arts to work on. You can use our stash, our domestic sewing machines, tools etc. NO instruction is offered but, there just might be someone else in the room to ask.
Domestic Machines are available - NO Industrial machines offered.
Event occurs most Fridays from 10-3

Longarm Quilt Operator Training - learn to operate the Gammill Statler Stitcher or Gammill Class Stitch Regulated Free Motion machine. This course is required if you want to rent our machines.

Intro to Garments - This course takes you from Basic Sewing into Garment Elements and Construction. You will be introduced to patterns, fabric & fiber types. You will learn to decipher sewing vocabulary gaining understanding and making samples of facings & linings, curved seams and corners, darts, tucks and gathers. You will learn the proper way to cut out a garment while making a simple top. This course involves a lot of sewing and sewing homework to assure your success.
Course consists of 10 weeks of 2.5 hour sessions
All materials included with course - you can choose fabric for top from our stash or provide your own. More information will be given during course.

You will learn seams and seam finishes and then apply this to simple projects.
Learn hems types while making an apron
Learn zipper basics and finally learn buttonholes, hook and snap closures.

Student who complete this Apprenticeship program will receive multiple certificates including The Sewing Labs Certificate in Domestic Sewing Skills, Certificate in Industrial Sewing Skills and the US DOL Certificate of Apprenticeship. Each of these certificates represent a significate accomplishment by the student and a great addition to their resume whether they will become a employee or an entrepreneur.

Garment Construction Fundamentals is Part 2 of Garments @ The Sewing Labs. This course introduces sleeve types; raglan vs.. set - in, collars & cuffs; Waistbands; casing with elastic, linings and more.
Learn the sewing vocabulary terms and make samples of these fundamental elements for future reference.
Make a pant/skirt and sample top
Course consist of 12 weekly session 2.5 hrs. each.

Sewing Machine Basics – Domestic = Did you receive a sewing machine as a gift or are just getting started? Learn to use your new machine or refresh your skills. If you don't have a machine but, still want to learn - you can use one of ours for this class. You will learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and more. Basic sewing operations including stitch width & length & pattern selection will be covered. You will make samples as you learn for future reference.
Bring your machine and all its accessories & tools. This does not cover embroidery machines.

This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;

* Opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom
* Rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more.
We want you to do what your heart & hands love.
Even if you just want to find out more before deciding to volunteer. This is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.

We will have all the fleece hats and scarves pre-cut for you to get sewing.
Our goal is to stitch 100 sets to be distributed.
