This class will introduce you to the Fun of Sewing. Learn to read a pattern, choose fabrics & notions for success. Start your sewing by constructing a simple garment. The instructor will help you to select your fabrics & notions & pattern during the first class. The Sewing Labs supplies all the fabrics & notions needed for your project from our "in-kind" inventory. But, you are welcome to bring in your own fabrics, notions & sewing machines. LImited sewing machines are available. Class consists of 4 weeks of 2 hr sessions. Class Fee = $60

This is a special meeting bringing together the various organization that supports at-risk women in Kansas City. Attendance is by invitation only. Please feel free to inquire/request an invitation if you represent an agency that might be interested in partnerships with The Sewing Labs.

Become a partner at The Sewing Labs by joining a committee to develop & support quilting. Whether you are interested in teaching or helping, your involvement is key to the success of our programs. Currently, we have 2 committees that met each month - Quilting Committee meets the 2nd Tuesday from 4:30 - 6 pm. The Sewing Committee meets the 2nd Thursday from 10- 12 am. Unity of Independence has partnered with The Sewing Labs to help us to build the kits for our classes. Monthly, the group gathers together to build the kits needed for the Sewing Labs. We enjoy fellowship while supporting each other. You are welcome to join us to build the kits after the morning services. Advance registration is suggested
Part of our mission at The Sewing Labs is to build and support our community. The Community Quilt Projects makes this happen. Each quarter we choose a project to work on for the community. For example, quilts for babies, kids or others in need. Pillow cases for children or senior centers. Projects will be made in the Lab or off - sight with a rally day per quarter to gather together and present the items to the community partner. We welcome individuals, women's groups, kids groups. This is a great opportunity for your group to use this as your own service project. Or we can work with your group to create one for you. Community Projects is usually scheduled bi-monthly with a Rally day each quarter.

This class is for a first time sewing machine owners or someone who needs a refresher course. Learn the features of your sewing machine, how they work and what is their purpose. Learn sewing machine maintenance and proper selection of needles and thread. Participants are encouraged to bring their own machine, but, we do have our classroom machines available to learn on too. This is a 1 - 2-hour session.
