Most require sewing - because that is what we do! The selection of projects change monthly. A fun time to enjoy with friends while creating. Many are beginner or kid friendly = a great way to share the Legacy of Sewing.

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 Certification is a sewing skills training class.
This course covers the very beginnings of learning to sew with a Domestic machine.
Each session you will build onto your skills and knowledge of the core elements of sewing.
* Sewing Machine Operation, features & accessories and proper maintenance
* Needles & Threads and proper selection and uses
* Tools of the Trade - cutting, measuring, marking and construction
* Seams & Seam Finishes & Hem finishes
* Closures - Zippers, Buttonholes, hooks and more
Make a tool organizer for your sewing tools & a cross body bag
Then use these skills to start your own sewing business or acquire a job in sewing.
To earn a certificate you must complete a test which includes written questions and sewn samples
Use our machines or bring your own.
All Materials Provided
Course is 10 - 2 hr. sessions

Class covers;
* pattern & fabric selection
* proper garment sizing
* pattern layout and instructions tips
* cutting marking and more.
You will select and bring a simple pattern to sew. Wait to purchase pattern until after first class.
Then fabric selection can be from our stash or bring your own.
Course consists of 4 - 2 hr session

Every Thursday Evening @ 6pm
The Sewing Labs

Don't let Zippers stop you from making fun garments! This 2 session class is part of our Phase 2 Garments course. But, you can take it just by itself.
The Zipper course will teach you 4 different zippers;
* centered
* lapped
* invisible
* and separating.
All materials are provided. You will make samples of each zipper to use for your future reference.

Make 1 to frame or many to put into a wall hanging. Each week there will be a different house to make. Sign up for 1 or all 4. All supplies provided. Weekly 2 hr sessions

This will allow you to build your skills as well as experience many techniques to find what type of quilting you like best.
in April - learn the art of making Chevrons - there will be 3 different chevron patterns made in April. Each pattern can be used for a table runner or wall hanging or you can also make into a pillow or lap quilt. This is a fun and fast pattern that you can add to your quilt reference library. 4 - 2 hour sessions.

Collars are the perfect way to top off a garment. This 3 session class is part of our Phase 2 Garments course. But, you can take it just by itself.
The Collar course will teach you 3 different zippers;
* rolled
* flat
* stand up
Once you have mastered these - you will have the knowledge to adapt almost any collar.
All materials are provided. You will make samples of each collar to use for your future reference.

Learn the skills to operate the industrial/commerical straight needle. Skills building for accuracy & speed using working examples & real work-room site tours included. Our Master Instructor; Nancy Peterson has a lifetime of skills & knowledge to share with you to assure you have real-life experiences in the industrial sewing world. This course is for the person interested in securing employment in sewing. The course consists of class lectures & labs. The course runs for 8 weeks. Course fee $500 for 2 months - monthly payments available. Limited scholarships available - contact us for registration.

This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.

* This class covers basic serger sewing
* Proper Threading and maintenance

Participants of this class will create a workbook with samples of stitches, mastering curves on your serger, creating special hems and more.
