Learn the skills to operate the industrial/commerical straight needle. Skills building for accuracy & speed using working examples & real work-room site tours included. Our Master Instructor; Nancy Peterson has a lifetime of skills & knowledge to share with you to assure you have real-life experiences in the industrial sewing world. This course is for the person interested in securing employment in sewing. The course consists of class lectures & labs. The course runs for 8 weeks. Join us for a community event - this month we will be making small quilts to donate to the Welcome Blanket. These are 40 x 40 " blankets for refugees or immigrants as a special welcoming gift and to ease their travels to the United States. You are welcome to bring your own fabrics or help us to use our stash. We have picked a simple pattern using half square triangles. Blankets will be finished this day or assigned to one of you to finish and return to be shipped.

We want you to volunteer at The Sewing Labs!
This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.

Build your sewing skills and reference library while learning several seam types, seam finishes, and hems. Each of these components have a special use or special fabric usage. You will create a sample to keep, that shows each of these components. Refer to your samples to use these learned skill when you do future sewing projects
* Seams - 5 types learned and a bonus of using the serger
