You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete. At the end of this course you can earn a certification thru testing. This course is also part of our Sewing Salon program - for employment, entrepreneurship and enrichment.

This course will be lead by Cali Roberta on Saturdays & Robert Lackie - on week days -Classroom Instructors for Domestic machine.

All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.

This course will get you back to sewing and then you can continue to more courses for additional certificates or just for self enrichment.

You will also learn how to add accents and creative trims in wanted. Take home this FREE pattern for the standard size pillowcase and options for King or travel sizes.

Materials available from our stash or bring your own to match your décor.
Each standard size pillow case requires 3/4 yd. or 27" of 44" wide 100% cotton fabrics + 1/3yd. or 12" of 44" wide 100% cotton material.

Introduction to Commercial Embroidery - Embroidery on Baby Lock Venture - 10 needle.

This class is for anyone interested in renting The Sewing Labs Commercial Embroidery - Baby Lock Venture or is you are have your own and want a hands on start up class. You will learn about Stabilizers; Cutaway, Tearaway and Water Soluble, as well as other backings and aides. IN addition you will learning about Topping; Washaway, Heataway & Permanent. Learn proper hoops & hooping tips; Standard, clamp, magnetic, free arm, cap frames and more. Explore Thread types , needles and more. You will have hands-on opportunities with the machine as well as demonstration and lecture. You will come away with samples and a strong knowledge of the machines operations.

This class is a pre-requisite to renting the machine at The Sewing Labs.

Simple Sewing – Candy Wrapper Zippered Bag– Create this bag from recycled candy bags (bring your own candy bag). Learn to make a simple zippered bag with lining but, add your fun using your favorite candy wrapper.

Materials included are: iron on vinyl, zipper and lining (participants must bring their own candy wrapper)
Individual or Family size bags are good - empty and clean your candy bag if needed before class

You will end making a cross body bag with the skills you learned.

Earn a certification thru testing, if wanted. All materials provided. (sewing machine operation required) 9 sessions of 2 hrs. Fee $200

Online format - Do you want to start a business in sewing?
Facilitated by Jim & Trisha Fridell of the Opus Group

You will be guided by your instructors through the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs. There are 13 models to be covered. During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.

Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.
You will have homework for the weeks in between. You can attend the modules monthly or sign up for the entire 13 months. (sign up for year through our website. A workbook will be provided by email.

Entrepreneurs will:
- Understand the basics of marketing a start-up business
- Learn about consumer research and product/service development

Who Do You Want to Hang Out with?
Are you a Sewist, Quilter or other Fiber maker and just want to gather with others with the same interest?
Come check out Downtown SEWcial @ The Sewing Labs.

Each month on the 3rd Friday from 6-9 The Sewing Labs offers an "open house" atmosphere where you can come to connect with kindred spirits of sewing and The Sewing Labs. We will have simple projects (or bring your own) and light refreshments for your to enjoy! But you do not have to come to sew, you can just come for conversation and community. You never know who you will run into!

Do you have an embroidery machine and not sure where to start? Never fear, the Sewing Labs is here. Pack up your machine and join us for this beginner's level class where you will get to know your machine. This workshop takes 2 session; August 21st & 28th

You will learn:
- To hoop your projects
-How to choose the right stabilizer
-How to choose the proper needles and threads.
-To stitch designs that are built-in to your machine
- How to import designs from other sources.
-Mistakes do happen

Projects Include:

-Embellishing ready made items
-Creating a lined Zipper Bag entirely in the hoop

Basic Sewing – Phase 1 part 2 – Building on the skills learned in Part 1 or start where you are. You will learn seams and seam finishes and then apply this to simple projects. Learn hems types while making an apron and finally learn to apply buttonholes, hook and snap closures.
You will end making a cross body bag with the skills you learned.

You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete. At the end of this course you can earn a certification thru testing. This course is also part of our Sewing Salon program - for employment, entrepreneurship and enrichment.

This course will be lead by Cali Roberta on Saturdays & Robert Lackie - on week days -Classroom Instructors for Domestic machine.

All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.

If you don't have a machine but, still want to learn - you can use one of ours for this class. You will learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and more. Basic sewing operations including stitch width & length & pattern selection will be covered. You will make samples as you learn for future reference.

You will be guided by your instructors through the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs. There are 13 models to be covered. During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.

Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.
You will have homework for the weeks in between. You can attend the modules monthly or sign up for the entire 13 months. (sign up for year through our website. A workbook will be provided by email.

This class is for anyone interested in renting The Sewing Labs Commercial Embroidery - Baby Lock Venture or is you are have your own and want a hands on start up class. You will learn about Stabilizers; Cutaway, Tearaway and Water Soluble, as well as other backings and aides. IN addition you will learning about Topping; Washaway, Heataway & Permanent. Learn proper hoops & hooping tips; Standard, clamp, magnetic, free arm, cap frames and more. Explore Thread types , needles and more. You will have hands-on opportunities with the machine as well as demonstration and lecture. You will come away with samples and a strong knowledge of the machines operations.

Are you a Sewn Product Professional looking to "find your people" Sew Connected is a face-to-face meet up were we gather for FREE to build conversations and connection about our industry. Each month we gather for coffee and a short talk about what is important to us and supporting the Industry of Sewing Professionals.

What is a "Sewing Professional"? We define it as the following groups, but, if you think we left someone out - Let us know!
* Sewn Product Professional - Cut & Sew Manufacturers, Factories, Micro-factories, Custom Sewist - person/businesses being hired to sew a product in relationship to textiles like; fashion or clothing, accessories, home goods and more.
* Designers - product designers using textiles or fiber as their medium. This could include Fashion Designer, Surface Pattern Designers, Product designer.
* Supplies/Vendor - Businesses that sell the supplies needed to create the items listed above - typically wholesalers. Possible shop owners.
While we welcome most everyone - Professional Persons within the Sewing Industry is the focus. We are building this community of talented people who are eager to share and collaborate to rise each other up

Open Sew–Open Sew is a time for you to come together to enjoy sewing on your own projects in The Sewing Labs. Bring your sewing machine or use ours (first come, first serve). Use our tools & stash to practice your skills or start a project or bring your own project to work. NO INSTRUCTION IS OFFERED - YOU MUST HAVE SEWING EXPERIENCE! but, volunteers are available for simple help. Domestic machines are available - NO Industrial machines offered.

We want you to volunteer at The Sewing Labs!
This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.
