Sewing Machine Basics – Domestic = Did you receive a sewing machine as a gift or are just getting started? Learn to use your new machine or refresh your skills. If you don't have a machine but, still want to learn - you can use one of ours for this class. You will learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and more. Basic sewing operations including stitch width & length & pattern selection will be covered. You will make samples as you learn for future reference.
Bring your machine and all its accessories & tools. This does not cover embroidery machines.

You will be guided by your instructors through the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs. There are 13 models to be covered. During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.
Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.
You will have homework for the weeks in between. You can attend the modules monthly or sign up for the entire 13 months. (sign up for year through our website. A workbook will be provided by email.

Basic Domestic & Industrial Sewing with English as a Second Language
Have you wanted to learn to make quilts? This is the class for you!!
This class starts with the basics and builds. You will learn and explore color theory, mastering 1/4" seam allowances, proper pressing and more. You will be introduced to piecing techniques while making a 4 patch pin cushion. Next you will learn about strip piecing and channel quilting while making a simple journal cover and stitching nine patches and binding for a hot pad. And finally learning cutting, piecing and quilt assembly while making a baby or wall sized quilt (approx. 40" x 49")
You will come away from this class comfortable with basic techniques in quilting and ready for the next steps

Are you a Sewn Product Professional looking to "find your people" Sew Connected is a face-to-face meet up were we gather for FREE to build conversations and connection about our industry. Each month we gather for coffee and a short talk about what is important to us and supporting the Industry of Sewing Professionals.
What is a "Sewing Professional"? We define it as the following groups, but, if you think we left someone out - Let us know!
* Sewn Product Professional - Cut & Sew Manufacturers, Factories, Micro-factories, Custom Sewist - person/businesses being hired to sew a product in relationship to textiles like; fashion or clothing, accessories, home goods and more.
* Designers - product designers using textiles or fiber as their medium. This could include Fashion Designer, Surface Pattern Designers, Product designer.
* Supplies/Vendor - Businesses that sell the supplies needed to create the items listed above - typically wholesalers. Possible shop owners.
While we welcome most everyone - Professional Persons within the Sewing Industry is the focus. We are building this community of talented people who are eager to share and collaborate to rise each other up

Basic Domestic & Industrial Sewing with English as a Second Language
We want you to volunteer at The Sewing Labs!
This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.
Online format - Do you want to start a business in sewing?
Facilitated by Jim & Trisha Fridell of the Opus Group
You will be guided by your instructors through the modules of the Smart Money program hosted thru The Sewing Labs. There are 13 models to be covered. During the 13 months program you will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of running your own sewing business taught by local business professional. In addition, local creative business professionals will share their stories of the start up and running of their businesses.
Classes will be held by Zoom on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday, from 6-7:30 pm.
You will have homework for the weeks in between. You can attend the modules monthly or sign up for the entire 13 months. (sign up for year through our website. A workbook will be provided by email.
Business of Sewing – Entrepreneurial
Entrepreneurs will:
- Understand the basics of marketing a start-up business
- Learn about consumer research and product/service development
- Discover marketing tools for growth and expansion
Have you wanted to learn to make quilts? This is the class for you!!
This class starts with the basics and builds. You will learn and explore color theory, mastering 1/4" seam allowances, proper pressing and more. You will be introduced to piecing techniques while making a 4 patch pin cushion. Next you will learn about strip piecing and channel quilting while making a simple journal cover and stitching nine patches and binding for a hot pad. And finally learning cutting, piecing and quilt assembly while making a baby or wall sized quilt (approx. 40" x 49")
You will come away from this class comfortable with basic techniques in quilting and ready for the next steps
Course is 6 - 2 hours sessions Tuesday evenings 6-8pm Instructor - Annette Hosmann & Mary Nelson
All materials provided - or you can bring your own. Fabric choices will be discussed at first class. Fee $120.
Prepare yourself for employment or entrepreneurship in the profession of sewing. SSTP is a vocational training program with a commitment of up to 30 weeks of hands-on sewing instruction on both domestic and industrial machines and entrepreneurial business training to support you. You will learn the craft of sewing, participate in site tours to local businesses who are actively seeking to hire professional sewist included & tool kit provided Participants will take an entrance interview & assessment to be accepted into the program. Limited Scholarships are available.
Next session starts June 21st. Entrance Interviews to be held Monday & Wednesday June 7th & 9th.

SSTP is a vocational training program with a commitment of up to 30 weeks of hands-on sewing instruction on both domestic and industrial machines and entrepreneurial business training to support you. You will learn the craft of sewing, participate in site tours to local businesses who are actively seeking to hire professional sewist included & tool kit provided Participants will take an entrance interview & assessment to be accepted into the program. Limited Scholarships are available.
Next session starts June 21st. Entrance Interviews to be held Monday & Wednesday June 7th & 9th.
Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course if for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete. At the end of this course you can earn a certification thru testing. This course is also part of our Sewing Salon program - for employment, entrepreneurship and enrichment.
This course will be lead by Cali Roberta on Saturdays & Robert Lackie - on week days -Classroom Instructors for Domestic machine.
All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.
This course will get you back to sewing and then you can continue to more courses for additional certificates or just for self enrichment.
