Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course if for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete.

All materials and supplies are included with this course. You can use our machines & tools or bring your own to learn with.

Sewing Machine Basics – Operations: Are you a new sewing machine owner or looking to start your sewing journey? This class is tailored just for you. Whether you've recently received a sewing machine as a gift or you're a beginner eager to refresh your skills, we've got you covered. Even if you don't own a machine yet, you're welcome to use one of ours for this class.

During this session, you'll gain essential knowledge on how to effectively use your sewing machine, including threading, bobbin winding, and more. We'll cover fundamental sewing operations such as adjusting stitch width, length, and pattern selection. As you learn, you'll create samples that you can reference in the future.

Please bring your own sewing machine, along with all its accessories and tools. Please note that this class does not cover embroidery machines.

Workbook provided for your reference.

Have you wanted to learn to make quilts? This is the class for you!!

This class starts with the basics and builds. You will learn and explore color theory, mastering 1/4" seam allowances, proper pressing and more. You will be introduced to piecing techniques .Next you will learn about strip piecing and channel quilting. Learning cutting, piecing and quilt assembly while making a baby or wall sized quilt (approx. 40" x 49")

You will come away from this class comfortable with basic techniques in quilting and ready for the next steps

This is a six week course (2 hour sessions) held on Tuesday evenings from 6p - 8pm.
Class Dates are: September 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17, and 24

All materials provided - or you can bring your own. Fabric choices will be discussed at first class. Fee $120.

Longarm Quilt Machine Operation Training covers instruction on operating either the Gammill Statler Stitcher or the Gammill Classic Stitch Regulated Free Motion machine. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for renting our machines.

During the training, you'll be instructed on the following:

How to prepare your quilt
Preparing the machine
Loading your quilt
Utilizing the Gammill Statler Stitcher CAD system
Operating the Gammill Classic Stitch Regulated machine with manual control
Unloading your quilt
Tips, tricks, and valuable recommendations

Items to bring to the training:

A face mask if you prefer to wear one
A positive attitude and willingness to learn, including making mistakes as part of the learning process
Optional: Snacks if desired
You'll practice on provided fabric, but feel free to bring a quilt for discussion, although it may or may not be used for instructional purposes.

Explore the world of embroidery with our essential training course designed for operating the Baby Lock Venture 10-needle embroidery machine. This training is a prerequisite for machine rental.

During this course, you'll learn:

Proper hooping techniques for your projects
Selection of appropriate stabilizers for different projects
Choosing the right needles and threads for optimal results
Basic operation of the Baby Lock Venture embroidery machine
Selecting designs from the built-in library
Importing designs from external sources
Valuable tips, tricks, and recommendations to enhance your skills

Open Sew Fridays is a dedicated time for fellow sewing enthusiasts to gather and work on their respective projects. Whether you're into sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, or any other fiber arts involving sewing, you're welcome to bring your ongoing projects.

Feel free to utilize our stash, domestic sewing machines, and various tools available on-site. While this is a creative communal space, please note that no formal instruction is provided during this event. However, you may find fellow attendees who can offer assistance or guidance.

Domestic sewing machines are available; please note that industrial machines are not offered.

Event Details:

Occurs most Fridays from 10 AM to 3 PM
Open to the public, ages 10 and beyond
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult and actively engaged in a project

After successfully completing the Operator Training and gaining approval to operate the Longarm machine independently, you can proceed to rent the Longarm machines.

Rental Fees for the Longarm machines:

A block of 2 hours: Minimum charge of $50
Each additional hour: $20
Please note that the rental fee does not cover batting, backing, or binding. Batting can be purchased separately at a rate of $8 per yard.

All rental times require pre-registration; walk-ins are not permitted.

However, attendance at a Longarm Quilt Machine Operator Training is a mandatory prerequisite to be able to rent the machines. Upon successful completion of the Operator Training and obtaining approval to operate the Longarm machine independently, you can proceed to rent the Longarm machines.

This course is divided into three parts, taught over three sessions, with classes scheduled for 10/11, 10/18, and 10/25.

Whether you bring your own serger to enhance your skills or use one of our machines (please specify your preference as we have a limited number of sergers available), this workshop will equip you with the essential knowledge to effectively utilize a serger.

The curriculum of this workshop includes:

Thorough instruction on proper threading and maintenance of a serger
Understanding thread tension and familiarizing yourself with serger features
Crafting a comprehensive workbook showcasing various stitch samples
Mastering serger techniques for sewing curves and creating special hems, among other skills
All necessary materials will be provided for a seamless learning experience.

Open Sew Fridays is a dedicated time for fellow sewing enthusiasts to gather and work on their respective projects. Whether you're into sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, or any other fiber arts involving sewing, you're welcome to bring your ongoing projects.

Feel free to utilize our stash, domestic sewing machines, and various tools available on-site. While this is a creative communal space, please note that no formal instruction is provided during this event. However, you may find fellow attendees who can offer assistance or guidance.

Domestic sewing machines are available; please note that industrial machines are not offered.

Occurs most Fridays from 10 AM to 3 PM

Longarm Quilt Machine Operation Training covers instruction on operating either the Gammill Statler Stitcher or the Gammill Classic Stitch Regulated Free Motion machine. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for renting our machines.

During the training, you'll be instructed on the following:

How to prepare your quilt
Preparing the machine
Loading your quilt
Utilizing the Gammill Statler Stitcher CAD system

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course if for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. You will also learn the tools of the trade and more while making some simple projects & a tool caddy. Each week you will learn a new skill and you will have home practice work to complete.

Have you wanted to learn to make quilts? This is the class for you!!

This class starts with the basics and builds. You will learn and explore color theory, mastering 1/4" seam allowances, proper pressing and more. You will be introduced to piecing techniques .Next you will learn about strip piecing and channel quilting. Learning cutting, piecing and quilt assembly while making a baby or wall sized quilt (approx. 40" x 49")

You will come away from this class comfortable with basic techniques in quilting and ready for the next steps

Basic Sewing - Phase 1 - This course if for a beginner who has never sewn before or for someone who has not sewn for awhile and needs a refresher course. You will learn to operate a domestic sewing machine including threading, basic operation and safety & maintenance. Have you wanted to learn to make quilts? This is the class for you!!

This class starts with the basics and builds. You will learn and explore color theory, mastering 1/4" seam allowances, proper pressing and more. You will be introduced to piecing techniques .Next you will learn about strip piecing and channel quilting. Learning cutting, piecing and quilt assembly while making a baby or wall sized quilt (approx. 40" x 49")

You will come away from this class comfortable with basic techniques in quilting and ready for the next steps

This is a six week course (2 hour sessions) held on Tuesday evenings from 6p - 8pm.

The Sewing Labs is a Registered Apprenticeship Host and Training with the United States and Missouri Department of Labor.

Sewists who complete this Apprenticeship program will receive multiple certificates including The Sewing Labs Certificate in Domestic Sewing Skills, Certificate in Industrial Sewing Skills and the US DOL Certificate of Apprenticeship. Each of these certificates represent a significate accomplishment by the student and a great addition to their resume whether they will become a employee or an entrepreneur.

This session lasts for a duration of two hours. You have the option to rent a Longarm Quilting Machine for personal use. However, attendance at a Longarm Quilt Machine Operator Training is a mandatory prerequisite to be able to rent the machines. These training sessions are typically held monthly, and space is limited, so it's advisable to review our class schedule on the website for availability.

Upon successful completion of the Operator Training and obtaining approval to operate the Longarm machine independently, you can proceed to rent the Longarm machines.

The rental fees for the machines:

A block of 2 hours: Minimum charge of $50
Each additional hour: $20
The fee does not cover batting, backing, or binding. Batting can be purchased separately at a rate of $8 per yard.
All rental times require pre-registration; no walk-ins are allowed.
Statler Quilting offers a variety of E2E patterns to choose from.

Serger Workshop - Serger Basics - Learn how to use a serger.
This is a three part course and classes meet on 10/11, 10/18, and 10/25.

Sew Powerful, a global non-profit organization, invites talented stitchers worldwide to create and donate a purse for schoolgirls in Zambia. These purses are filled with re-usable feminine hygiene supplies, crafted by Sew Powerful employees in Zambia. The goal is to equip girls with the necessary supplies to attend school comfortably throughout the month, enhancing their academic performance.

Under Chris McMullen's guidance, you'll learn to sew a cross-body purse using the free pattern provided by Sew Powerful. The purse you create will be a generous donation to Sew Powerful, contributing to their mission. This workshop empowers you with the skills to make a meaningful impact and support their 2023 target of collecting and distributing more than 20,000 purses. All materials for the workshop are provided.

Open Sew Fridays is a dedicated time for fellow sewing enthusiasts to gather and work on their respective projects. Whether you're into sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, or any other fiber arts involving sewing, you're welcome to bring your ongoing projects.

Feel free to utilize our stash, domestic sewing machines, and various tools available on-site. While this is a creative communal space, please note that no formal instruction is provided during this event. However, you may find fellow attendees who can offer assistance or guidance.

Domestic sewing machines are available; please note that industrial machines are not offered.
