The Sewing Labs

Do you have too many T-shirts laying around? Do you have someone with Tshirts from special events that you would like to create a remembrance quilt for them? T-shirts quilts make great gifts for graduations, college or just for fun. Gather 20 T-shirts and we will teach you the tricks to using them to make a quilt. We want you to finish your project so class consists up to 8 - 2 hours sessions. Class fee $80 which includes the special interfacing needed. Additional materials needed for your borders & backing.

This class is for the first time sewing machine owners or someone who needs a refresher course. Learn the features of your sewing machine and what is their purpose. Learn sewing machine maintenance and proper selection of needles and thread. Bring your own machine, if you have one or reserve one of ours. This class is FREE when you sign up for any other class. This is a pre-requisite class for Job Skill Certification. This class consists of 3 - 2 hours sessions.

The Sewing Labs

This is a 6-week course that covers; Sewing Machine Basics ( 3 - 2 hr session) Tools of the Trade (1 - 2 hours session) and Sewing Basics (2 - 2 hr sessions) For Certification you will be required to complete a test on the skills/knowledge learned. Students must score 80% or better to earn a certification. This course is a pre-requisite for our Garment or Commerical Certifications. Participants will be required to attend class and do additional homework/practice-work to master the skills/knowledge taught. Practice-work generally requires an additional 12 hours. The Sewing Labs has Open Sew hours available if the student needs to use our machines for practice-work and does not have a home machine available. The course consists of 6 weeks of 2 hours sessions (2nd quarter will have optional sessions available) Each participant will receive a "Sewing Kit" for personal use which will belong to the student and must be available during classes. (Student can provide their own kit if wanted) Kits consist of; scissors & snips, pins, needles, seam ripper, seam gauge, needle threader & tape measure. Course cost - $150 kit included

Enjoy learning to piece curves and/or squares. You will be learning the tips for these piecing challenges while creating either a pillow or a throw size quilt (great for a baby present) This class will take you from fabric selection thru piecing thru quilting. This class is for beginners thru advanced. The class consists of 6 weeks of 2-hour sessions. Materials available from our stash or you can bring your own.

This class will teach you the Tools of sewing from scissors to rotary cutters, from pins to needles, rulers, rippers & markers - Oh My! You will learn these tools and practice using them to develop accuracy.

Class Session = 1 session 2 hrs.
Fee = $25 - all materials provided (scholarships available)

The Sewing Labs

...a workshop to create a beautiful HeARTful Journal. We will be using Gelli-Art printing plates, rubber stamps and paints to create gorgeous journals and greeting cards. If you already have a Gelli-plate bring it. And if you want to buy one we have those kits available. You will learn lots of NEW techniques to create your journal. Here is a website to see what gelli-printing is about; www.gelliarts.com. You will fall "head over heels" in love with your creations! In addition to creating HeARTful journals, we will enjoy a sense of community with special activities throughout the afternoon sharing from the heart. Limited to 12 participants. We want you to volunteer at The Sewing Labs!
This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.

The Skills Test is for our volunteers wanting to work in our sewing classes. We require our helpers to have basic sewing skills in order to be a to help our students in their learning. The skill tests will guide you thru the basic sewing skills needed.

This is a closed class for the troop. : Yes! The Sewing Labs can help your girl scouts to earn their sewing badge. We offer several different projects, from beginners like sewing on buttons and beyond. Call us to see how we can help your troop earn their badges or do community service work.
