T-shirts quilts make great gifts for graduations, college or just for fun. Gather 20 T-shirts and we will teach you the tricks to using them to make a quilt. We want you to finish your project so class consists up to 8 - 2 hours sessions. Class fee $80 which includes the special interfacing needed. Additional materials needed for your borders & backing.

This is a 6-week course that covers; Sewing Machine Basics ( 3 - 2 hr session) Tools of the Trade (1 - 2 hours session) and Sewing Basics (2 - 2 hr sessions) For Certification you will be required to complete a test on the skills/knowledge learned. Students must score 80% or better to earn a certification. This course is a pre-requisite for our Garment or Commerical Certifications. Participants will be required to attend class and do additional homework/practice-work to master the skills/knowledge taught. Practice-work generally requires an additional 12 hours. The Sewing Labs has Open Sew hours available if the student needs to use our machines for practice-work and does not have a home machine available. The course consists of 6 weeks of 2 hours sessions (2nd quarter will have optional sessions available) Each participant will receive a "Sewing Kit" for personal use which will belong to the student and must be available during classes. (Student can provide their own kit if wanted) Kits consist of; scissors & snips, pins, needles, seam ripper, seam gauge, needle threader & tape measure. Course cost - $150 kit included

The Sewing Labs, along with Stitching Change and Sew Creative of True Light Ministry host a POP-UP shop, the 1st Tuesday of each month @ Cup on the Hill - 730 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City KS 66101. There will be handmade items from the women and volunteers in our mission programs. There is also a Facebook page for "Made with Confidence" - please follow us to see what we feature each month. If you cannot make it to the event you can order directly that day thru Facebook or by calling in.

POPULAR CLASS!!!Back Do you need a "positive - pick-me-up" or to spread some "good JuJu" - Join us @ The Sewing Labs to create your own personal Prayer Flags. These inspirational flags are created to share positive energy with the world around us. This is a mixed media creative class combining; fabric, trims, charms, beads, stamping and more. We had a large inventory of items to choose from. Create a flag for your home, garden or a personal necklace or pin. This is a great class for your prayer group, or women friends to do together. We want you to volunteer at The Sewing Labs! All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation. This is a one session orientation training which will give you the tools and insights on how to be the best volunteer you want to be. Orientation will cover; opportunities for volunteer, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. Pre-registration is required. Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is.

Learn how to use a serger. Bring your own serger to add to your skills or use ours. Serger Basics - 4hr class. This class covers basic serger sewing. Proper Threading and maintenance, thread tension and understanding serger features. Participants of this class will create a workbook with samples of stitches, mastering curves on your serger, creating special hems and more.

SEW-full STitcher is our community projects - 4th Tuesday of the Month @ 10-12 or 4-6, we work on one of our community projects. You will be provided with the quarterly project selection, materials, and a pattern if needed. Community projects are an item that we are making to donate to a local shelter or group such as; pillowcases, quilts, socks, etc. You can work on them at the Lab during open sew or take home to work on. Then quarterly there is a Rally Day - to bring us together to gather the finished items for distribution - Sewing it Forward!!

Students wanting to earn a certificate and enter into our Commerical Sewing Skill Certification course are required to have an entrance interview with our instructors. Our Commercial Sewing Course is a unique opportunity to build & master your skills to be job ready but, also, gives you access to other Kansas City business that using sewing in their business.
