Volunteer Work out – Your helping hands is needed to organize and process donations and do some light housekeeping @ The Sewing Labs. These Work Outs are a fun get together to do some needed processing and jobs to keep up and improve our sewing center. Often there will be some needed paperwork as well. Your support is what makes us build our program to greatness. The Sewing Labs will provide light refreshments. Come for an hour or stay for 3 & thank you for your support

Phase 2 – Intro to Garments – This course covers body sizing & silhouette styling, pattern selection, layout, cutting and more. Textile selection. You will make a simple top with darts, gathers or tucks and neckline with facings. (no knit fabrics)
This class is in 6 weeks blocks and you must enroll at the beginning of each block to attend

Clothing Repair Workshop – Bring a garment in need of repair – pants to hem, patches needed, missing button or zipper repair This workshop does not cover alterations. Workshop consist of a demonstration of methods of simple repairs & examples of supplies needed for each. Small supply kit available. Followed by you working on your own garment – you may need to bring your own materials – call for questions of needed.

The class format will consist on a 30 demonstration of the highlighted subject and followed up by the remainder of the class to be used to help you to create and construct the costume of your choice. If you know what you want your costume to be then we are here to help you construct it. If you are still in the discovery phase of what you want to do, we are here to help. You can take 1 session or come for all. There is lots to learn with every class. Fee is by the session or a block of 4.

Did you just buy a new sewing machine? Learn to use your new machine or refresh your skills on your existing one.
Bring your machine and all its accessories & tools & instruction manual.
This class covers threading your machine, winding bobbins. How to select stitches and how to adjust your stitch width & length to customize your sewing. Also, you will learn how to adjust the tension for different sewing and how to select the proper needles and threads for successful sewing. You will learn how to troubleshoot when you run into a problem and the proper care of maintenance of your sewing machine. This is a 1 session course and is a pre-requisite for the Phase 1 job skill course.

Just Sewcial - Community Sewing Projects - We work on different project to be donated to someone or some group in the local community.

Humble Quilts – Do you need a quilt or know someone who does? Come make a “humble” quilt with others.
We use simple designs & the materials we have on hand. We piece & quilt as a group together, like a “sewing bee” of the past.
Everyone works on 1 quilt at a time to honor the cloth & share the kindness of a warm blanket. Some blankets will take more than one day to complete.
This workshop is FREE but must come to work on the quilt to receive one. If you are coming to help - please register. If you are coming to help and want to be a recipient of a quilt - please note that in your registration so that we can put your name on the list.

This is a one session orientation training which will give you an overview of the mission of The Sewing Labs and how you can serve as a volunteer.
Orientation will cover;the mission of TSL, the opportunities for volunteers from the classroom to community to boardroom, rules of operation and safety precautions for everyone in the program and more. We want you to do what you heart & hands love.
Even if you are just interested in finding out more before deciding to volunteer this is a great opportunity to explore what The Sewing Labs is all about.
All of our volunteers are expected to go thru an orientation within the first 90 days of service Pre-registration is requested.
