Classroom & Workshop Policy

Thank you for choosing The Sewing Labs. Please review the following policies before registering for a class or workshop.

Registration and Payment

Payment is due in full before the first class date. For some longer-format classes, students may register with a minimum $30 down payment. Any remaining balance must be paid in full before the first class begins.

Classes and workshops are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment requirements. Unless otherwise stated in the class description, a minimum of four students is required for a class to be held.

Attendance and Arrival

Students may arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class to set up. Classes begin promptly at the scheduled start time.

Guests, children, and pets may not attend classes with registered students. Service animals are welcome. We appreciate advance notice when possible so we can help ensure appropriate accommodation.

Accommodations

Students who require special assistance or accommodation should contact The Sewing Labs before registering or as early as possible before the class begins. Advance notice allows us to determine whether we can reasonably provide the requested accommodation.

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships may be available.

Scholarship applications must be submitted by the last day of the month before the class start date.

Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Scholarships apply to one class only, and a new application is required for each class.

Cancellations, Refunds, and Transfers

If The Sewing Labs Cancels a Class

If The Sewing Labs cancels a class or workshop because of low enrollment, weather, instructor availability, or other unforeseen circumstances, registered students may choose either:

  • A full refund to the original form of payment.
  • A transfer of the full registration amount to another available class or workshop.

No cancellation fee or transfer restriction will apply when The Sewing Labs cancels the class.

When possible, we may offer a rescheduled class date. Students who are unable to attend the rescheduled date may request a full refund or transfer their registration to another available class or workshop.

If a Student Cancels or Requests a Transfer

A request to move from one class or workshop to another is treated as a cancellation of the original registration because a seat was reserved and may not be filled on short notice.

The following cancellation and transfer terms apply:

  • Requests received at least four calendar days before the scheduled class are eligible for a full refund.
  • Requests received between two and four calendar days before the scheduled class are eligible for a class credit.
  • Requests received less than two calendar days before the scheduled class are not eligible for a refund, credit, or transfer.
  • No refunds, credits, or transfers will be issued after a class has started.
  • No refunds, credits, or transfers will be issued for missed classes due to illness, personal conflicts, transportation issues, or other circumstances.

At its discretion, The Sewing Labs may allow a one-time courtesy transfer when a student contacts us before the original class begins. Courtesy transfers are subject to class availability, must be used within six months of the original class start date, and are not eligible for an additional transfer or refund.

Any approved class credit or transfer must be used within six months of the original class start date. Transfer eligibility may also depend on the type, structure, or material requirements of the class or workshop.

Adverse Weather Policy

The safety of our students, staff, and volunteers is our priority.

When winter weather or other hazardous conditions may affect class schedules, The Sewing Labs will notify registered students of any cancellation, delay, or schedule change as promptly as possible.

Whenever possible, notifications will be sent by email and text message by 6:00 a.m. on the affected day. Updates may also be posted on The Sewing Labs’ website and social media pages.

The Sewing Labs generally considers Kansas City Public Schools’ weather-related closing decisions when determining whether classes can be held safely. However, our final decision may differ based on conditions affecting our facility, instructors, students, or scheduled class times.

Students are responsible for checking their email, text messages, our website, and social media pages for the latest updates during adverse weather.

When The Sewing Labs cancels a class because of weather, students will be offered a rescheduled class date, a transfer to another available class or workshop, or a full refund.
