Intro to Garments Button Up Shirt
Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level?
This 6-week course focuses on helping you bridge the gap from beginning sewing to garment creation. You’ll dive deep into taking measurements, learning how to read a pattern and essential garment elements like fitting, seam finishes, sewing collars, facings, sleeves, and buttonholes, all with a focus on constructing a relaxed fit, unisex, button up shirt. This class involves significant hands-on sewing to build your confidence and proficiency.
All materials are provided. You can choose your fabric from our stash or bring your own. More details will be shared in the first session. Pattern fits up to a 59" chest/hip.
Prerequisite:
Completion of Begin to Sew the Fundamentals. Or equivalent, must have experience using a sewing machine, measuring, cutting, and marking.
Take the next step in garment sewing by learning how to construct a classic button-up shirt. With guided instruction, you will work through a garment pattern while learning how the different pieces and construction steps come together.
Students will practice skills such as selecting a size, reading pattern markings, cutting fabric, sewing seams, adding a collar and sleeves, creating buttonholes, and attaching buttons. Along the way, you will build a stronger understanding of garment construction and leave with a wearable shirt you made yourself.
“Begin to Sew: The Fundamentals” or equivalent basic sewing experience is recommended.
